These Iris plants are known as the Walking Iris. They are small, dainty yellow flowers that appear on the end of a long green stalk and they appear to be walking. The Walking Iris plant is a survivor plant because the green stalk will bend over time and settle into the dirt where it falls. I continuously find them all over the Dougherty Garden.
Also, as the green stalk bends and drops off the flower, there is also a seed pod. The seed pod is still on the stalk after the young Iris plant falls off. Take a look at the Iris stalk and see the few Iris plants that will be on that stalk. All one has to do is snap off each plant from the stalk. if you look closely at the one on the stalk, or, the young palnt that has fallen off the stalk, look to the bottom and see that this young plant has already started to put out roots.
I have them in several point around the Dougherty Garden and in all areas the Walking Iris plants are very healthy. Enjoy,
Marty Dougherty
