Dougherty Garden - Solitaire Palm Tree Seeds

It's that time of the season where palm tree seeds are falling all over the place in the Dougherty Garden. Some seeds, like the Cuban palm tree seeds have yet to put out a seed bract, even though the Cuban palm tree has been in the groud for almost twenty years. One surprise was that of the Florida thatch palm tree which has put out a seed bract with 1/4 inch sized light green seeds that I'm waiting to see turn white. The other one that I'm waiting for the seed bract to open is the Bottle palm tree.

Here are the seeds from the Solitaire palm tree from the Dougherty Garden. I have about six Solitaire palm trees around the landscape odf the Dougherty Garden. Three of them are clustered together and create a bed of red seeds when the Solitaire palm trees have shed most of their seeds. I try to gather as many as I can because quite a few will germinate right below the palm trees. Once the root established itself, they get a little tough to pull out of the ground. if anyone is interested in getting some seeds, please let me know in the comment section.

The Dougherty Garden,

Marty Dougherty
