Plant of the Day

59 Bottle Palm Tree Seed Bracts

I have to find the official color of the seeds that are turning color. I have been checking this seed bracts for the past several monhs on my Bottle Palm Tree. Every day that I walk by the palm teree, I look for any color change and that happened today. I had to take as econd look because at least 15 seeds had changed color.

03 Washington Palm Tree Seeds and Seedlings

I hve been searching for my Washington Palm Tree Seeds for a few weeks because everything has been growing during the summer. I was looking but getting no where. During this week, I was able to clear away a lot of plants and cleared out all the weeds growing in the pots. Just today, I picked up a pot and there was my Washington Palm Tree Seeds in the pot that I had planted them a few weeks ago.

As I clean out the area, I'll be able to search the area when I remove the weeds. I have to buy a pair of gloves over the next few weeks to minimze my exposure to the weed killer that I spary over the past few weeks over the weeds in the area. Thank or the rain to help wash off any weed killer residue on the dried out weeds.

01 Queen Palm Tree Seeds in Pots

This will be the last batch of Queen Palm Tree Seeds that I will be collecting because Ii will eventually will have the Queen Palm Tree removed. To me, the Queen Palm Tree is a bit of a pain in backside because the seeds that fall attract an immense amount of pests. I rather not deal with the pests.

01 Queen Palm Tree Seeds

I have had the Queen Palm Tree in the front of the house for as long as I can remember. The Queen Palm Tree is a pretty palm tree, if it is maintained on a regular basis. Most people down here in South Florida use the typical landscaping service, which do a hatchet type job on cutting back on the old palm tree leaves. The proper way to maintain the Queen Palm Tree is to cut off only the brown leaves, but most times, the majority of the leaves are cut off because it is a bit expensive for the average person to do this on a regular basis.

Your typical landscape crew, when they do cut back on most palm trees, will cut the majority of the leaves off, and the palm trees look terrible when they are finished. The end result, over the years, is that the landowners will eventually remove all of the palm trees because of the maintenance cost incurred and have only to deal with the lawn mowing and edging. Also, it's a costly amount to remove each one of the palm trees.

HI05 Rasberry Hibiscus Flower

Here is my Rasberry Hibiscus plant that has also been in the Dougherty Garden for a very long time. I originally found it at an accounting assignment in North Palm Beach used in a hedge application. Every day that I went home from the assignment, I would see these pretty rasberry color in the hedge. One day, I just took a small cutting and it is now part of the Dougherty Garden and used a a hedge.

HI14 Pink Hibiscus Flower

One of my traveling finds was that of the Pink Hibiscus flower. This Pink Hibiscus flower has been in the Dougherty Garden for many years. I found one in Wellington, Florida near the Park Avenue Grill. You can spot this Pink Hibiscus from a distance to due to its beautiful pink color.

Unknown Plant

It's such a pretty plant that I hope that it is not a weed.

T336 Fukien Tea (Bonsai) Plant

I found this Bonsai pot a few years back and held unto it hust in case I came across a plant that would fit the bill. The Fukien Tea plant was just right and now I just have to find out what can I use for a top cover to minimze the amount of weeds that tend to grow on this pot. I'm amazed that it is not growing too fast since I had it placed on this pot.

F127 Yellow Alder - Tunera ulmifolia

This is my wife's favorite flowering plant which I have in the front of the house. This is the first year that I have seen them grow to full height during the summer. They will grow to about four feet in height and will take full advantage of the width, if given sufficient space to grow outwards. If memoriy serves me right, they yellow blooms are more pronounced early in the day and tend to close up in the afternoon. Very preetty coloring flower.
