86012 Misericordia Hospital - 86th Street Memories - May 27, 2019

Misericordia Hospital on 86th Street. This was an earkly change in the Yorkville landscape when it moved from 86th Street to some point in the Bronx. Very little details are involved. From the few inquiries that I received and observed on the message boards over the years, a few unwed mothers had their little ones born in this hospital. Apparently, there were a few or more private opplacements for adoptions. very little records were kept as most that post trying to get information were not successful in finding any birth records.

Getting back to the early days and the interaction with St. Joseph's Parish and Church. I believe that this may be where some of the files are buried but we'll tread on with what St. Joseph's relationship with Misericordia Hospital. The altar boys at St. Jospeh's served mass and I believe that it was an early morning mmass at Miserecordia Hopspital, possible at 6:30AM. I remember many times going from 85th Street and walking to Miserecordia Hospital to help serve mass with the attending priest who was assigned to the hopsital.

Everytime that you served mass there, the nuns were very friendly and always gave you a piece of candy. Enjoying some memories of Yorkville.
