Yorkville Memories - East End Avenue - October 11, 2018

Officially, East End Avenue is the first avenue from the East River. I have FDR Drive as an avenue merely as a point of reference for all the pictures that were acquired over the years on the old Yorkville website.

This is the part of East End Avenue that is near 79th Street. This is an old picture that shows the street to the right that goes behind this area and can be seen from the promenade on 81st Street. The local police car would drive down this street and take a coffee or beer break while they were on patrol. The promenade was about four stories above this section of the street. The kids would fill balloons up with water and drop the balloons on and near the police car. The police could never find the kids because Carl Schurz Park was just a few blocks away and there were many hiding places.
