While on Carribean Cruise, we were directed to go to the Panama Canal area due to an uprising on an old military base. We ended up staying there for about two months. While we were there, we got a chance to get a tour of the Panama Canal, at least, the portion that was closest to where we were stationed at the moment. This area was called the Gatun Locks.
Many years later, I was reading my oldiest boy's book that were related to disease breakouts. One was an Ebola breakout in Colombia, South America. The story stated that U.S. scientists were looking into the research and staying at a local U.S. Military Base in Panama.
Everyday we were assigned to get assorted communications and supplies from the eight ships that were assigned to our units in Panama. there was a small white building near where we stayed in the mornings and we use dot go inside toi get some drinking suipplies. It was a sall local club on the defunct military base.
The man behind the bar had told us that a group of scientists were staying there for a time before they were asked to leave because of the deteriorating situation at the base. The scientist were flying back and forth to Colombia and left aruptly when we arrived. It was funny that I found out what the scientists were working on when they were there many years ago.
Enjoy,
