So You Served - Izmir, Turkey SYS043 - October 13, 2018

Izmir, Turkey SYS043

This is a picture from the cruise book from ourt Med Cruise back in 1963. I took a few picture with my iTablet and I'll do the Facebook thing to edit the pictures so I can use them on my WIX Blog. This is Izmir, Turkey and we were limited in what we could do because the country at the time was not too western oriented.

We were able to go through the bazaars which were pretty interesting because of all the things that were for sale. I remember about the jewelry where the jewel or gold was more expensive and if you bought one thing that they would throw in the other item free of charge. The other thing was that each bazaar was unique to one particular line of goods. If you didn't find something at each bazaar, it was not sold in that country. Like, the jewely was all in one bazaar on one street.

We did bump into a U S Air Force member who was on leave in Izmir and stationed near there. As we were walking around the streets of Izmir, Turkey, my friend, Ron Snow spotted a stand selling meat sandwiches, like those Greek sandwiches. He went over to buy a sandwich and the Air Force guy told Ron not to even try a sandwich. Ron said that he was hungry and the Air Force guy told Ron to take a look around the streets and notice if he saw any dogs or cats. Snow asked why and the guy said that was what was sold in those sandwich carts. So, we had to wait until we got back on the ship for food.

Sharing a few memories of "So You Served." Enjoy,
