Marines on Corsica - SYS037
For all those U.S. Marines that served in the F.M.F. (Fleet Marine Force) on a Navy ship in the Caribbean or Mediterranean Sea. I have a ton of pictures from both types of cruises in assorted collections. I'm putting these pictuters up to share with with some that never saw their old friend, relative and someone that they know in uniform. Quite a few are of a picture of an area or a country of what I experienced many, many years ago.
For those that are not familiar with U.S. Marine operations, the F.M.F. is attached to several Navy ships and cruises points in the world. Marines from Camp Lejeune go to the Caribbean and the Mediterranean Sea on extended cruises protecting American interests and respond to world events in a timely manner.
The above picture is a peacetime operation where the grunts, that's the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines Infantry, do an exercise on a foreign piece of real estate and the support troops, that's us, 1st Landing Support Company, provide backup for the operations. In the above picture, there a few Marines and their names...Pinnick, Belleville and Schlak...unloading supplies in Corsica. I forget the other names.
More to come. Enjoy,
Marty Dougherty
